Christmas is FRIDAY!! Not to be graphic or anything but, I feel like I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off. It is down to the wire and there are a few things that still have to be done. Finishing touches I guess you could say, and I want to do more DIY Christmas things, and make some yummy cocktails. This last month has been a doozy for me. I had my parents come to town and then I started having issues with my kidneys so I had to keep everything low key. Then one day I accidentally had a sip of soda.. I grabbed the wrong glass, thinking it was mine, took a big ol’ drink just to realize that it was not in fact mine. I was drinking water and once I realized it was soda I had already swallowed it. Granted it tasted sooooo good, but it wasn’t worth it. I don’t get to drink soda very often since almost every soda has corn syrup in it. I was not able to do much of anything for about 4 days. I drank a lot of water and tea, and took my allergy meds when I could. Everything is good now though! My side effects didn’t last as long as they normally do so that was at least nice.
The Christmas season is almost over, but I thought I would share my top 5 things that I love about Christmas.
Growing up as a family, my parents and I would put the tree up every year and my Mom and I would put up the other decorations around the house. It was always nice to spend time together and get in the Christmas spirit. Granted I’m not one of those people who has to do Christmas everything, but just enough so I don’t get burned out. The last couple years I have been doing a wall tree before it was due to the lack of space, but this year I wanted to do it since it was less time consuming. That sounds terrible but I have a lot of things to do and it looks just as nice. Plus I don’t have to vacuum afterwards, haha.
This kind of goes hand-in-hand with celebrating, but I really like spending time with my friends and family during the holidays. Don’t get me wrong I like being around them any other time during the year but it seems to be more meaningful when it is around the holidays. Even if it is just sitting by a fire drinking some wine and reminiscing on old memories or making new ones. Plus who says you can’t do both?!
I also LOVE wrapping presents. I don’t know what it is, but something about wrapping something for loved ones (and sometimes putting a bow on it) just warms my heart. I also tend to be a perfectionist, and want everything to look nice since it is going to be under the tree for more than a couple days. If I am going to have to look at it, I want it to look nice. My designer is showing I know…
Most of the time I tend to make my presents rather than just out-right buy things from the store. One, because it tends to be cheaper and I am all about that frugal life. And two, I feel like it is more meaningful that I took the time to think of something the person would like and make it. Just feels a little more personal.
I don’t mean to get all religious on the subject but for me Jesus is the reason for the season. He gave us the biggest gift of all by coming down and giving his life for all of us. I think that is the greatest gift anyone could give me. And the least I can do is celebrate his life and the gift he gave me.
