I want to say about a month or so ago, this little cutie fell into our lap. It was the week that I managed to get really sick to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed. The following Saturday, I did laundry with the little energy that I had. Granted it took all day, but I got it done. At one point I took a nap because I was so zapped on energy I couldn’t do anything else.
About an hour later I woke up to a puppy crying, which I thought was my roommates puppy. I walked out of my room and looked over the ledge, and there was this little puppy just walking around the living room with Busa. The back door had been left open so Busa and my roommates dog could just run in and out. I didn’t know that the roommate that was there had left to go do something. His girlfriend had just gotten home when I woke up and had sent me a picture asking if it was my dog.
At this point I’ve not only got sick brain, but I’m still waking up and really confused.
I go downstairs and Bre comes out of their room and we start talking about the puppy. We had no idea where she came from or how she even got into our back yard. Busa is an escape artist, he even got out recently and was missing for about 24 hours. So if there was a way to get in the backyard, Busa would have gotten out. It was just weird.
We posted a picture of her on different facebook groups, tried craigslist and other lost and found dog websites but the only messages we ever received were people offering to take her if we couldn’t find her owners. We even scanned her to see if she had a microchip, but the trail ran cold. Our neighbors next to us ended out moving out the day after she showed up at our house. We originally thought that they might have just left her since they didn’t want her. Turns out that wasn’t the case.
We waited about 2 weeks before we committed to keeping her. We didn’t want to get attached or possibly find her owners. Turns out the neighbors across the street from us, one of their kids brought her home but the parents said no we can’t keep her. Then just put her outside to roam the neighborhood… When we found her she was maybe 2 months old, she could have gotten hit by a car, or eaten by a bigger animal. We live in the desert so there are animals out there, I’m sure, that would love to eat her for dinner. The biggest thing that rubs me the wrong way is why would you just let her outside?! Take her to a shelter or something don’t just let her out to roam the neighborhood.
We ended up naming her Harley. We have a thing with naming our dogs, Busa is named after a sports bike, and now she is named after Harley Davidson.
She is such a sweet girl, we are almost done with potty training her which is really nice. Busa took ages to potty train. She seems to be getting the idea and is starting to use my doggie doorbell that I made her. I feel like she chose us, and we are so happy to have her as a part of our family now.
