Last year I decided to try out doing a bullet journal as my planner. Not going to lie, at the beginning it was kind of intimidating. I felt like there were so many things that I could do and I couldn’t decide what to go with. I just started trying new things as I went along. I figured it was just better to jump in and learn to swim in the process.
I originally started with a monthly layout but it just took up too much space and I wasn’t using it, at least for my personal life. I did two months like this for me personally and only wrote down 5 things total. Just didn’t work for me. I ended up using the same concept with planning posts for Powerful Positivity, but it just really messy so just ended up going with something with sticky notes that I could move around instead of using white out and crossing things out… as you can see below. It just became a headache and I just didn’t like it in the long run.
Here are some of the different things I have tried in my weekly set ups. The first three are my favorites (so far).
Not every layout worked, but I needed to figure out what would work for me. At first, when I was just trying to get back in a groove I had all of the days of the week listed on one page. Which was perfect when I wasn’t writing things down as much or didn’t have any plans. But as time went on I found that I needed more space so it didn’t look as messy which is why it now is on a whole spread in my journal.
At one point I was tracking what I was eating and when I was sick. I’m not sure why I stopped.. I need to start doing that again.
I use circles instead of boxes to color in when I get something done. As you can see most of the time what I have planned doesn’t always happen on that day. I normally over plan and just have to move some things to later in the week or even the following week if I don’t get to it. This last image (above) I had so little written in for the week I used it for a packing list for that weekend. The last one, is my least favorite, but it was also one of the first layouts I tried. Just didn’t work out for me. Which is perfectly okay, it was all a learning experience.
Do you have a bullet journal as your planner? Which layouts have worked out the best for you?
